Major traffic restrictions announced in Baku for Baku Marathon 2025
Significant traffic restrictions will be in place across Baku on May 4, in connection with the Baku Marathon 2025, local authorities announced.
The large-scale sporting event is expected to draw thousands of participants and spectators, prompting the temporary closure of key roads in the Azerbaijani capital, Caliber.Az reports.
Police Captain Toghrul Nasirli, head of the Public Relations Department at the State Traffic Police Department told Caliber.Az that the marathon will commence and conclude at the State Flag Square. The route will encompass several major thoroughfares, including Mikayil Huseynov Avenue, Azneft Circle, Neftchilar Avenue, 8 November Avenue, Baku White City, and Military Trophies Park. The return route will pass through Afiyaddin Jalilov Street, Yusif Safarov Street, Uzeyir Hajibayli Street, Academician Zarifa Aliyeva Street, Rasul Rza Street, and Neftchilar Avenue.
“Throughout the route — State Flag Square, Mikayil Huseynov Avenue, Azneft Circle, Neftchilar Avenue, Azneft Square, 8 November Avenue, Baku White City and Military Trophies Park, and in the opposite direction, through the streets of Afiyaddin Jalilov, Yusif Safarov, Uzeyir Hajibayli, Academician Zarifa Aliyeva, Rasul Rza, Neftchilar Avenue, Azneft Circle, Mikayil Huseynov Avenue and to the State Flag Square — traffic police officers will ensure the safety of the marathon participants,” Nasirli said.
Authorities have confirmed that from 09:00 to 16:00 on May 4, the section of Neftchilar Avenue between the Sea Port and Military Trophies Park, along with other roads adjacent to the marathon route, will be completely closed to traffic. Drivers are advised to use alternative routes during this period.
“Police officers will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the participants of the event and their smooth and convenient movement around the capital,” Nasirli added.
The Baku Marathon 2025 aims to promote a healthy lifestyle, support the development of sports in Azerbaijan, and foster community spirit by uniting people for a noble cause.
