Azerbaijan repatriates 10 of its citizens from Syria

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has stated that the country has repatriated 10 of its citizens from Syria.

“As a result of phased and coordinated measures taken by the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on October 17, 2023, 10 citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including 9 children and 1 woman, who were detained in camps located in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, were repatriated to our country,” Caliber.Az quotes the ministry as saying.

According to the ministry, four of the repatriated were children, who lost both parents. In this regard, first of all, the location, identity and citizenship of the repatriates were determined, and then their transition to the territory of Türkiye was achieved.

Representatives of relevant state institutions responsible for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens from Iraq and Syria were sent to Türkiye, and preliminary medical and psychological examination of the repatriates was ensured.

The citizens were provided with return certificates and flight tickets to Azerbaijan by the relevant coordination work carried out by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Türkiye.

On October 17, 2023, the mentioned citizens were repatriated to the country accompanied by a delegation.

It is planned to implement relevant measures in the direction of social rehabilitation and reintegration of repatriates into society.

The Azerbaijani government will continue to take necessary measures for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens who have become victims of armed conflict on the territory of foreign countries.
