Slovakia plans to open honorary consulate in Azerbaijan
Slovakia is preparing to open an honorary consulate in Azerbaijan as part of its efforts to strengthen bilateral ties, according to the Slovak Foreign Ministry.
The ministry said the key priorities for expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan include “active support for Slovak companies, preparations for opening an honorary consulate in Azerbaijan, and deepening the political dialogue between the two countries,” Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The announcement comes following a meeting between Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár and newly appointed Azerbaijani Ambassador to Slovakia, Elchin Gasimov.
During the talks, Blanár said Slovakia sees growing mutual interest in enhancing relations with Azerbaijan.
“Last year, bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Slovakia strengthened significantly. During the Slovak Prime Minister’s visit to Baku, we intensified joint efforts toward strategic partnership,” he said.
Ambassador Gasimov, for his part, emphasised Azerbaijan’s rising profile as an economic partner for Slovakia across multiple sectors.
“Azerbaijan is increasingly positioning itself as a promising business partner for Slovakia—not only in energy and defence industries, but also in the fields of IT and transportation,” Gasimov noted.
