Azerbaijan’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport continues breaking records.
Over 815,000 passengers on 6,171 flights were handled in July 2024, marking a 23 per cent increase from July 2023 and 663,000 passengers were served, the Heydar Aliyev International Airport told Caliber.Az.
Of the total, 52 per cent of passengers on international routes were transported by foreign airlines, while the remaining passengers flew with the national carrier. Foreign airlines transported over 380,000 passengers, while Azerbaijan Airlines carried 351,000 passengers. During this period, the national carrier conducted 745 flights to Nakhchivan, serving more than 85,000 passengers.
The Heydar Aliyev International Airport has reported a significant increase in transit passengers, with numbers rising nearly threefold to 36,000 compared to July 2023. This underscores the growing strategic importance of Baku's airport as a key transit hub.
Popular international routes from Baku include Istanbul, Moscow, Dubai, Tbilisi, and Abu Dhabi, with over 320,000 passengers traveling on these routes. Overall, in the first seven months of 2024, the Baku airport served over 4.2 million passengers, a 36.2 per cent increase from the same period last year.
