Spokesman for the Azerbaijan State Agency for Automobile Roads Anar Najafli has said that the Aghdam-Askaran-Khojaly-Khankendi highway is being actively built.
The total length of the road is 33.6 kilometres. The road begins from the Barda-Aghdam highway, Najafli told Caliber.Az.
The road will have a 15-metre-width (on a 11.7-kilometre section) and a 26.5 metre-width (on a 21.9-kilometre section). It will consist of both two-lane and four-lane sections.
The construction plans for the road include the installation of culverts of various diameters and the construction of two underpasses.
Large-scale earthworks are actively underway. Five bridges are being built along the road, at the 1.6, 4.4, 7.2, 9.6, and 14-kilometre marks.
The Agdam-Askaran-Khojaly-Khankendi highway will significantly simplify travel across the region and is expected to have a substantial impact on the development of agriculture and tourism. Overall, 55 per cent of the project work has been completed.
