Azerbaijan's Media agency condemns disinformation campaign targeting Baku
The Media Development Agency of Azerbaijan has issued a statement expressing concern over what it describes as a newly emerging disinformation campaign targeting Azerbaijan across international media outlets and social media platforms.
According to the statement, the campaign appears to be gaining traction in the information space and social media segments of several countries, Caliber.Az reports.
Media noted that some of the content being disseminated includes fabricated claims alleging that Azerbaijan is covertly supplying arms to Ukraine via a third country. Other narratives reportedly spread false information about Azerbaijan’s potential withdrawal from the Eurovision Song Contest in the event that Israel is banned from participation.
The agency expressed particular concern over the re-circulation of such disinformation within Turkish media and its social media landscape, suggesting that the spread of these falsehoods—originating from fabricated sources—has been facilitated by the influence of fake news networks. Media described the development as a matter of deep regret.
In response to the spread of these unsubstantiated reports, Media called on the international community, including media outlets, journalists, and public activists, to exercise vigilance and not to lend credibility to false narratives and disinformation. The agency urged stakeholders to adopt a principled stance in resisting the manipulation of public opinion through misleading content.
Media emphasized the importance of responsible journalism and information verification, highlighting that the spread of fake news undermines international trust and the integrity of public discourse. The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of Azerbaijan’s commitment to transparency and accurate information dissemination, and an appeal for global media professionals to uphold these same standards.
