Azerbaijani defence officials mark Armed Forces Day with memorial ceremonies PHOTO

Azerbaijan's Minister of Defence, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, led a delegation of senior military officials in commemorative events marking June 26 – Armed Forces Day and the 108th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijani Army.

As part of the observance, Hasanov and other ministry officials visited the grave of National Leader Heydar Aliyev at the Alley of Honors, where they laid a wreath at his monument and paid tribute to his memory, Caliber.Az reports via the Defence Ministry.

The delegation also laid flowers at the grave of prominent ophthalmologist and academician Zarifa Aliyeva.

The officials later visited Victory Park and the Military Memorial Cemetery, accompanied by a guard of honor. Wreaths were laid at the memorials, and tribute was paid to the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of the country, the ministry said.
