Azerbaijan, EU review ties, regional developments in high-level meeting

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov met on June 25 with the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Magdalena Grono, to exchange views on the current state and future prospects of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union, as well as regional issues.

Both sides emphasised that ongoing political dialogue, reciprocal high-level visits, and intensive contacts contribute significantly to the development of Azerbaijan–EU relations, Caliber.Az reports via the ministry.

In this context, the visit of President of the European Council António Costa to Azerbaijan this year was highlighted as an important step in deepening mutual understanding and advancing the cooperation agenda.

The meeting reviewed the current state of the Azerbaijan–EU partnership in political, economic, energy, transport, and communications fields, and discussed previously reached agreements.

Mammadov informed his counterpart about the progress in the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalisation process and the peace agenda, stressing the importance of utilising existing opportunities to finalise the peace process, ensure the timely implementation of commitments, and strengthen mutual trust.

The sides also underscored the importance of continued cooperation within international organisations and maintaining dialogue on issues of mutual interest, alongside an exchange of views on other regional and global developments.
