Venezuela salutes Azerbaijan’s backing following catastrophic quakes

Venezuela has thanked Azerbaijan for its message of solidarity and condolences following the devastating earthquakes that claimed lives and caused widespread destruction across the South American nation.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil Pinto conveyed the government's appreciation in a post published on social media platform X, Caliber.Az reports.

“The Government of Venezuela expresses its sincere appreciation to the Republic of Azerbaijan for its message of solidarity and condolences addressed to our people,” Gil Pinto wrote.

The message follows a series of powerful earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela in the early hours of June 25. Initial reports recorded a magnitude 7.1 quake, while the United States Geological Survey (USGS) later reported two seismic events measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude that occurred approximately 40 seconds apart.

In the aftermath of the disaster, Venezuelan authorities declared a state of emergency as rescue and recovery operations continued across the affected regions.

According to the latest official figures, the earthquakes have left 164 people dead and 971 others injured, while causing extensive damage to infrastructure and residential areas.
