Azerbaijan’s permanent rep to UN: Armenia trying to torpedo peace process

15 September 2022 20:50

Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN Yashar Aliyev has said that while carrying out provocations on the border, Armenia is trying to torpedo the peace process.

He made the remarks at a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York, Report informs on September 15.

The permanent representative informed the UN Security Council about the large-scale provocations committed by the Armenian Armed Forces on September 12 on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.

Thus, while taking advantage of the mountainous terrain and gorges at night, the sabotage groups of the Armenian armed forces were planting mines in the territories between the positions of the Azerbaijani army units and the main roads in various directions.

Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan, in turn, took "adequate and proportionate measures" in response to Armenia's provocations.

The permanent representative noted Azerbaijan's readiness for the process of normalising relations with Armenia.

“Unfortunately, the Armenian representative’s statements show the unwillingness to establish relations and also demonstrate that Armenia does not intend to fulfil its obligations. Armenia, which has committed aggression against Azerbaijan and held the territory of this country under occupation for 30 years, is now talking about the norms and principles that it has been violating for many years,” the permanent representative said.
