Trump’s post featuring Azerbaijani president’s speech sharpens focus on Baku’s regional role Israeli Media Review
Israeli media outlets have reacted to a recent post by U.S. President Donald Trump on Truth Social, in which he shared an excerpt from a July 19 speech by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. In the video, Aliyev praised Trump’s peace-oriented policies and his commitment to fundamental values. The AIA Global features excerpts from articles published in Israeli media. Caliber.Az republishes the material.
▪️ Walla, one of Israel’s leading news outlets, quoted chief Sephardic rabbi of Baku, Zamir Isayev: “When a world leader of Trump’s stature praises the president of Azerbaijan, we Jews feel a special sense of pride.
Azerbaijan is known for its respect toward Jews, our religion, and our traditions. Such global publicity strengthens our historical ties with the country and the Azerbaijani people.”
▪️ The newspaper Maariv wrote: “The idea of a Washington–Baku–Jerusalem trilateral alliance repeatedly comes up in political and academic discourse. Baku is perceived as a mediating actor between the Middle East and the Caucasus, and as a key hub in the Southern Gas Corridor connecting the Caspian Sea to Southern Europe—a dimension that gains importance as Europe seeks to reduce its dependence on Russian energy.”
▪️ The ultra-Orthodox news website Kikar noted: “This may be the first time that Trump has shared a speech by a foreign leader and highlighted it in such a positive manner—an unusual move that points to a special relationship between the two leaders. But Trump is not alone; in the U.S. Senate as well, there are those who view Azerbaijan as a strategic partner for Israel, and therefore, as a friendly nation to the United States.”
▪️ The website of Israeli media group Israel National News – Arutz Sheva reported: “As the U.S. administration reevaluates its influence in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Azerbaijan is solidifying its position and continues to establish itself not only as a partner to Israel, but also as a key player in the new geopolitical landscape.”
▪️ The radio station Kol Barama, considered an unofficial mouthpiece of the ultra-Orthodox Shas party, also quoted Rabbi Zamir Isayev: “We view the deepening ties between Jerusalem and Baku not only as a political gesture, but also as a reinforcement of Jewish unity here. The Jewish community in Azerbaijan lives in prosperity and security, and this is a rare example of interfaith tolerance.”
