To recall, at his final press briefing in Baku on 25 July, outgoing Ambassador George Deek described Israel-Azerbaijan ties as “deeply diversified,” extending beyond energy and security to increasingly vibrant business relations.
He called Azerbaijan’s 2023 embassy opening in Tel Aviv a “major milestone” and stressed the potential for expanding trade: “$243 million in bilateral trade, excluding oil, is not enough. This figure should be multiplied by five or six to reach a normal level.”
Deek also expressed hope for greater Israeli involvement in rebuilding Karabakh.
Appointed in 2018 as Israel’s first Arab Christian ambassador, Deek fostered cooperation in trade, defence, energy, agriculture, and technology.
