Chinese envoy hails "new milestone" in Azerbaijan–China relations
Chinese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lu Mei has praised the enduring and stable development of bilateral ties between Azerbaijan and China over the past 33 years, describing the two countries as “good friends and trusted partners.”
Speaking at an official reception in Baku marking the 98th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Ambassador Lu highlighted the strength and maturity of Azerbaijani-Chinese relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, Azerbaijani-Chinese relations have developed in a healthy and stable manner over 33 years, contributing to fruitful cooperation across various domains and bringing real benefits to both peoples,” she said.
The ambassador also pointed to the recent elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s third state visit to China in April 2025. The move, formalised through a joint statement signed by the two heads of state, is seen as a significant milestone in the history of bilateral relations.
“This has marked a new milestone in China-Azerbaijan relations,” Lu stated. “China is ready to work together with Azerbaijan to enhance mutually beneficial collaboration toward implementing the crucial agreements reached between the two heads of state and advancing the welfare of both countries’ peoples.”
