A Russian diplomat has expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to Iran, highlighting smooth cross-border coordination and logistical support.
Speaking to journalists in Astara, Russian Embassy official Roman Popov thanked the Azerbaijani authorities and leadership for their assistance in ensuring the timely transit of relief supplies.
“I would like to express my appreciation to the Republic of Azerbaijan and its leadership for the support provided. Today, the second and third shipments of cargo were delivered,” Popov said.
According to him, the first shipment consisted of 300 tonnes of medical supplies organised by Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations and delivered by rail. The second shipment included 150 tonnes of food products sent by the government of Russia’s Republic of Dagestan.
Popov noted that the convoy crossed the border without any obstacles, emphasising the efficiency and coordination of Azerbaijani services.
“Once again, I would like to thank the authorities of Azerbaijan for their assistance. All services are operating precisely,” he said.
He also conveyed a message of appreciation from Iran, adding that he wished to extend “sincere greetings and gratitude from the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the brotherly people of Azerbaijan.”
