Azerbaijan to approve decision on solar power plant in Jabrayil soon
Vice President for Caspian Communications and External Affairs at bp Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli has said that a final investment decision on the 240 MW solar power plant project, which bp plans to implement in Azerbaijan’s Jabrayil district, is expected to be approved in the second half of 2024.
“The technical and commercial aspects of the final investment decision are being considered. After the final investment decision is made, the foundation of the solar power plant will be laid,” Aslanbayli told Report.
The project was initially estimated at $200 million. The Energy Ministry and bp signed an executive agreement on cooperation on the assessment and implementation of the solar power plant construction project on June 3, 2023. This document was signed as part of the implementation of the strategic decision to create a “green energy” zone in the liberated territories, the development of the renewable energy sector in Azerbaijan and commitments to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to 35 per cent by 2030, as well as bp’s strategy to turn into a company with “net zero emissions” until 2050.
