Azerbaijan to complete 38 road construction projects in Karabakh by 2026
Azerbaijan plans to complete 38 highway construction projects in the territories liberated from occupation by 2025-2026.
These projects are part of the ongoing efforts to rebuild and modernize infrastructure in these regions, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The announcement was made during a regular reporting meeting at the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads, which reviewed progress on current projects and outlined future tasks. The meeting highlighted that under the "I State Program on the Great Return to the liberated territories of Azerbaijan", the agency is currently working on 44 highway projects in these areas, with a total length of 3040.1 kilometres.
The report also noted that construction of six motorways has already been completed in previous years. Additionally, the agency is continuing the construction of internal roads in six towns—Shusha, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Zangilan, Kalbajar, and Jabrayil—and highways in seven villages within the liberated territories.
Under the Great Return State Program, by the end of 2026, a total of 280,000 hectares of land liberated from occupation will be cleared of mines. The program also includes plans to build 34,500 apartments and private houses, as well as 197 pre-school and general education institutions, 8 vocational schools, and 1 secondary specialized education institution, all of which will be constructed or renovated.
One of the key objectives outlined in the "I State Program on the Great Return" is to create mechanisms that foster entrepreneurial activity and increase employment opportunities in the region.
A central focus of the program is to ensure stable employment and social protection for the returning population.
