Azerbaijan to ratify protocol on Organisation of Turkic States

Azerbaijan will approve a protocol on changing the Nakhchivan agreement "On the establishment of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States".

The bill on approval of the protocol is included in the agenda of the plenary session of the parliament, to be held on April 4, Report informs.

The protocol on changing the Nakhchivan agreement was signed in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand city on November 11, 2022.

One of these changes envisages changing the name of the “Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States” to the “Organisation of Turkic States” upon a decision dated November 12, 2021, and making appropriate changes to the agreement.

The Turkic Academy, as well as the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, will act as organisations associated with the Organisation of Turkic States in accordance with the protocol, with the aim of implementing cooperation in science and education, disseminating and recognising the common values of the Turkic world, as well as preserving and promoting Turkic culture and heritage.

The protocol will enter into force on the thirtieth day after the depositary gets the last written notification about the completion of domestic procedures. The depositary of the protocol is the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

Moreover, the protocol was signed in a single original copy in the Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Turkish, Uzbek and English languages. All language versions have the same legal effect.
