Azerbaijan, Türkiye agree on boosting strategic cooperation Shaping the future together

09 March 2024 11:06

On March 8, the delegation headed by the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, met with Selcuk Bayraktar, Technical Director of Baykar Company, a member of the defence industrial complex of the brotherly country, as part of the visit to the Republic of Türkiye.

The meeting underlined the successful development of friendly and brotherly relations between the two countries in the military-technical and all other fields, Azerbaijani Defence Ministry's press service told Caliber.Az.

A number of issues of mutual interest were discussed, as well as prospects for the development of current cooperation.

The sides concluded the meeting by signing an agreement on cooperating in the field of joint research, development and production.

The agreement is another chapter in the joint efforts to modernise the armed forces of the two brotherly countries, implement measures aimed at strengthening defence capabilities and military security, increase the joint capacity of the armed forces of the two countries and establish close cooperation in the field of modern weapons and ammunition management.

Military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye has been going on continuously since the 1990s, and the military model developed by Türkiye during this period has proved to be suitable for Azerbaijan's goals and purposes.

Azerbaijan received key political and moral support from Türkiye during its 44-day counter-attack operations against the Armenian occupying forces in the Karabakh region in 2020. The political-military elite of Ankara voiced firm support for Azerbaijan’s efforts aimed at restoring its territorial integrity suffering from a nearly 30-year-long illegal Armenian occupation.

The cutting-edge equipment purchased from Türkiye took a special role in Azerbaijan’s victory in the war. Turkish Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) have reportedly given Azerbaijan an upper hand in the 44-day war with Armenia in the Karabakh region, an internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan.

Both countries stand shoulder to shoulder in the face of new threats in the region and pledge to continue this resolute path in the future.
