Azerbaijan unveils environmental innovations in railway construction in Karabakh, East Zangezur
The head of the construction project department of the Azerbaijan Railways company Tural Abbasli has said that when constructing new railway lines in Karabakh and East Zangezur, much attention is paid to environmental protection issues.
“When constructing new railway lines in Karabakh and East Zangezur, much attention is paid to environmental protection issues. In particular, there was a forest belt on the 85th kilometre of the Horadiz-Aghband branch, near the Minjivan station. The trees were replanted upon an agreement with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources not to ruin the forest. Harm to the environment was minimised,” Abbasli noted, Caliber.Az reports.
“In general, we are planting trees along the railways on both sides of the embankments. In particular, Eldar pines and cypresses were planted as part of the Barda-Aghdam branch project. Trees are also a noise barrier. Landscaping of the territory is a condition for all performers [contractors] of work. Trees are planted at the end of the work not to damage them and to create a proper watering system for them,” he added.
