Note that, RMAS established in 1947, has become the cornerstone of British Army officer training. It succeeded the Royal Military Academy Woolwich and the Royal Military College Sandhurst, preserving their legacy while shaping the future of military leadership.
RMAS's primary focus is training Officer Cadets to become commissioned officers, with all Army Officer education now centred at Sandhurst, following key milestones such as the transfer of Mons Officer Training School in 1972 and the incorporation of the Women’s Royal Army Corps College in 1981.
RMAS has earned a global reputation for delivering world-class leadership training, fostering esprit de corps among British and international officers. Since 1992, all new Regular Army officers undergo a comprehensive 44-week commissioning course, while Army Reserve Officers and Professionally Qualified Officers complete a tailored eight-week programme.
Located on a 600-acre estate straddling the Surrey-Berkshire border, RMAS is renowned for its iconic colleges, including Old College (c. 1808), New College (c. 1908), and Victory College (c. 1970). The academy remains a vital symbol of British military tradition and a training ground for future leaders.
The RMAS is renowned for producing many prominent and influential figures, especially from the military and political spheres.
Some of its most famous graduates include: Prince William, Prince Harry, David Cameron, Benazir Bhutto, Imran Khan, General Nick Carter, Earl Mountbatten of Burma, Winston Churchill, King Hussein of Jordan, King Abdullah II of Jordan.
