Azerbaijani border guards highlight key success, including neutralisation of enemy snipers PHOTO / VIDEO
A meeting was held at the Azerbaijani State Border Service on January 9 to discuss the results of operational and combat activity in 2024.
The meeting highlighted several key achievements of Azerbaijan's border guards in the past year, including the neutralisation of enemy snipers, a combat post, and a deployment point in response to an enemy provocation, which led to the wounding of a border guard on February 12, 2024 while serving at a border combat post, the Azerbaijani State Border Service told Caliber.Az.
The report also highlighted the following achievements: the detention of 514 individuals for border violations, 10,500 people for breaching border control regulations, 3,726 individuals wanted by law enforcement, 133 people with counterfeit or stolen documents, and five individuals attempting to illegally cross border checkpoints.
The meeting also noted the identification of seven individuals suspected of having ties to foreign intelligence services for the purpose of espionage and subversive activities against Azerbaijan.
Five individuals involved in terrorism and fighting abroad were arrested as part of anti-terrorism measures. Furthermore, 16 organised criminal groups involved in drug trafficking were neutralised, along with four groups engaged in smuggling and eight groups involved in human trafficking. The meeting also highlighted the confiscation of 2,601 kilograms and 980 grams of narcotics, along with smuggled goods valued at 45.06 million manats ($26.5 million).
Moreover, 28,754 kg of narcotic-containing plants were destroyed. Efforts to clear land included the removal of mines and unexploded ordnance from 110.27 hectares, with 161 antipersonnel mines, 20 antitank mines, and 220 unexploded munitions safely neutralised.
