Azerbaijani documentary set for international spotlight at Dhaka film festival
The full-length Azerbaijani documentary Creators – 2, directed by Shamil Aliyev, will compete in the World Cinema section of the 24th Dhaka International Film Festival, to be held in Bangladesh from January 10 to 18, 2026.
The docudrama explores the lives and achievements of two of Azerbaijan’s most prominent architects, Mikayil Huseynov and Sadig Dadashov, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Against the backdrop of their architectural contributions, the film delves into the profound effects of communist ideology on Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage and societal values during the 20th century. During the 1937 repressions, the vast majority of intellectuals and their families were targeted, forcing Huseynov and Dadashov to live part of their lives under fear and moral distress.
The film also highlights the transformative leadership of Heydar Aliyev, whose rise to power brought state support to the country’s intelligentsia. Aliyev is credited with protecting cultural figures from repression and fostering their creative endeavors.
Produced in 2024 by Salnama Studio and the NurFilm Production Center, Creators – 2 features a screenplay by People’s Writer Natig Rasulzada, cinematography by Rufat Suleymanov, music composed by Azar Asgarov, and production design by Lala Huseynzada. The film is produced by Nazim Huseynov and Shamil Aliyev.
With its compelling exploration of art, history, and resilience, Creators – 2 is poised to introduce international audiences to the legacy of Azerbaijani architecture and culture.
