An event marking Azerbaijan’s Remembrance Day, observed on September 27, was held at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tajikistan.
The commemoration brought together journalists, members of the Azerbaijani community, embassy staff, and students, according to local media.
The ceremony opened with a minute of silence in tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Speaking at the event, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan Alimirzamin Asgarov stressed that this day is dedicated to honouring the bright memory of those who gave their lives for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the country.
He underlined that the 44-day Patriotic War ended the 30-year occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenian armed forces, restored the country’s territorial integrity, and secured the fundamental rights of nearly one million Azerbaijanis. Asgarov added that both the Second Karabakh War and the 23-hour local anti-terrorist operation carried out in Karabakh in September 2023 restored the norms of international law and historical justice.
The ambassador further noted that, under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan had built a strong army, strengthened its economic foundations, and significantly raised its international standing. “Today, the Azerbaijani people are victorious, and Azerbaijan is a victorious state that has shaped new realities in the region,” he said.
Turning to the peace process, Asgarov recalled that a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia was initialled in Washington on August 8, describing the document as a development of historic importance for the region. He emphasised that the treaty had created new opportunities for stability and cooperation in the South Caucasus and that Azerbaijan’s peace initiatives were aimed not only at the two neighbouring countries, but also at the future of the wider region.
The event also featured a video presentation and a photo exhibition dedicated to Remembrance Day, further commemorating the sacrifice of Azerbaijan’s martyrs.
