Azerbaijani FM calls for restraint amid escalating Middle East tensions
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has called for restraint and the de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, voicing deep concern over rising tensions between Israel and Iran.
Speaking at the emergency session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, held within the 51st session, Bayramov voiced Azerbaijan’s deep concern over the rapidly worsening security situation in the region, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
He stressed that the escalation poses serious threats to civilians and undermines both regional and global stability.
Bayramov particularly highlighted the damage to civilian and nuclear infrastructure in Iran as a key area of concern.
He noted Azerbaijan’s close ethnic and cultural ties with Iran, as well as longstanding good-neighborly relations based on respect for international law, including the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the inviolability of borders.
The Azerbaijani minister warned that such developments represent a significant threat not only to local population but also to the wider environmental and geopolitical stability of the region.
He called for restraint and emphasized the importance of avoiding any actions that could further escalate the conflict.
In his remarks, Bayramov urged the international community to act swiftly to prevent another prolonged armed confrontation in a region already fraught with crises.
He called for an immediate halt to military operations and advocated for the restoration of diplomatic efforts grounded in the norms and principles of international law.
