Baku, Bucharest sharpen focus on green energy cooperation
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Marius-Gabriel Lazurca, the Romanian President’s Adviser on National Security, to discuss the expansion of bilateral relations and regional security issues.
According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides reviewed the current state and future prospects of the strategic partnership between Baku and Bucharest, noting that sustained high-level visits and regular political dialogue have underpinned the steady development of ties.
Both officials highlighted the role of the joint intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation as a key mechanism for advancing practical collaboration.
Energy cooperation featured prominently in the talks, with both sides reaffirming its status as a cornerstone of the relationship. In addition to traditional hydrocarbons, discussions also covered potential cooperation in renewable and “green” energy projects.
The meeting further explored opportunities to broaden engagement in transport and communications, education, pharmaceuticals and investment. Bayramov emphasised Azerbaijan’s investment climate, pointing to the Alat Free Economic Zone as an emerging regional logistics and trade hub, and invited greater participation from Romanian companies.
The two sides also stressed the importance of coordination within international organisations, including cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union framework.
