Azerbaijani FM lambasts Europe's double standards as he meets Czech Parliament Speaker

02 February 2024 16:57

Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament Marketa Pekarova Adamova.

The meeting highlighted the importance of mutual visits, political dialogue and inter-parliamentary cooperation, the Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.

It was also noted that there are prospects for bilateral economic relations, especially in the fields of energy, green economy, tourism, agriculture, education, investment and others.

Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about the measures taken by Azerbaijan to protect the environment and switch to renewable energy sources, the holding of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Azerbaijan, and the importance the country attaches to international commitments in this field.

Speaking about the transport potential of Azerbaijan and the prospects for the development of the Middle Corridor, the minister stressed that this corridor is one of the most important international transport routes through the South Caucasus and Central Asia.

Jeyhun Bayramov emphasised that Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of the European Union and EU member states, and said that the application of double standards and demonstration of unfair approaches towards our country does not contribute to the establishment of stable peace in the region. He also noted that the initiative of a small group in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in connection with the adoption of an anti-Azerbaijani decision and refusal to ratify the powers of the Azerbaijani delegation does not serve the dialogue.

Azerbaijani top diplomat stressed that for the first time in 30 years, real conditions for peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia have been created. In view of this, the provision of military assistance to Armenia under any pretext by the EU and some of its member states, the distraction of Armenia from the peace process is detrimental to the establishment of stable peace in the South Caucasus region.

We should recall that earlier Marketa Pekarova Adamova visited Armenia. While talking to the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, Alen Simonyan, she said: "During my visit to Baku I am definitely going to raise the question as to why they don't want to find solutions that will be respected by the representatives of Armenia. That is what we have to do. And, of course, we will use all our possibilities to be able to put pressure on Azerbaijan's representatives to continue participating in the negotiations."

As soon as she arrived in Baku, she retracted her statement, saying that she had been misunderstood. She also stated that she had always considered Karabakh to be an integral part of Azerbaijan.
