Azerbaijani, Georgian parliamentarians highlight peace, stability in Baku talks
Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova met with Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament Nikoloz Shamkharadze, who is in Azerbaijan to participate in the 10th trilateral meeting of the foreign affairs committees of Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia.
The meeting highlighted the importance of the trilateral format, which was established in Baku in 2014, with the most recent session having taken place in Shusha in 2022, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Gafarova emphasised that the trilateral relationship between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye promotes peace, stability, cooperation, and economic development in the region.
Shamkharadze conveyed greetings from the Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili to Sahiba Gafarova.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current high level of bilateral ties between Azerbaijan and Georgia and noted the successful continuation of cooperation on strategic regional projects.
The development of parliamentary relations was also discussed, with an emphasis on the importance of close interactions between the parliament speakers and deputies to further strengthen ties.
The parties noted that their parliaments collaborate both bilaterally and within international parliamentary organisations.
Gafarova shared her views on the situation in the region and new opportunities arising following the Washington Summit in August last year.
Shamkharadze highlighted that a peaceful process between Azerbaijan and Armenia would benefit all three countries in the region, with Georgia supporting this initiative.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
