Baku to host 2nd high-level ministerial dialogue on climate action As part of COP29
On November 15, Baku will host the 2nd High-Level Ministerial Dialogue on Climate-Based Cultural Activities as part of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
According to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture, the 90-minute dialogue is scheduled to take place in the Blue Zone of COP29, Caliber.Az reports.
The event is being organized by the Ministries of Culture from the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, and Azerbaijan and will be attended by ministers, deputy ministers, and heads of international organizations. Approximately 120 guests, including experts and representatives from non-governmental organizations, are expected to join the event. The high-level dialogue aims to achieve an international consensus on including culture—encompassing art and heritage—within the climate change agenda.
In conjunction with COP29, a parallel event organized by the group "Friends of Climate Activities Based on Culture" will take place at the pavilion of Azerbaijan, featuring participation from UNESCO, the ministries of culture of Azerbaijan, the UAE, and Brazil, as well as a presentation of the project "Culture for Climate" (C4C), initiated by Azerbaijan.
Over the past year, the Ministry of Culture has organized numerous events in preparation for COP29. Among these initiatives are a presentation at UNESCO headquarters detailing the cultural activities planned for COP29, a conference titled "COP29 and Culture: Cultural Aspects of Climate Change," and panel and plenary sessions at the VI World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue focused on environmental protection and the impact of climate change on cultural heritage.
Additionally, a special conference in Aghdam addressed the "Impact of Mines and Unexploded Ordnance on Cultural Property," and a bibliography titled "Ecology of Azerbaijan" was presented in honour of the "Year of Solidarity in the Name of a Green World."
