Belarus, Cuba strengthen military ties with focus on air defence
Belarus and Cuba are intensifying their military cooperation, particularly in the air force and air defence development.
During a recent working visit to Cuba, a Belarusian military delegation led by Air Force and Air Defense Forces Commander Andrei Lukyanovich engaged in high-level discussions with Cuba's Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, Álvaro López Miera, and Chief of General Staff Roberto Legra Sotolongo, Caliber.Az reports referring to Belarusian media.
The meetings focused on assessing the state of military collaboration and exploring future opportunities.
Both nations emphasized their shared positions on key international security issues, underlining a mutual commitment to strengthening ties. As part of the visit, the Belarusian delegation toured an air defence brigade and a command centre of Cuba’s Revolutionary Armed Forces, showcasing practical cooperation in action.
These developments build on a broader trend of defence collaboration. Earlier in 2024, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin visited Cuba, where agreements were signed to enhance bilateral military efforts. Similarly, in July, Cuban and Belarusian defence leaders met in Minsk, aligning their strategies to deepen military partnerships.
This series of engagements reflects a strategic partnership shaped by shared geopolitical interests, signalling a steady expansion of cooperation in defence and security.
