Belarus president: Armenia risks being destroyed amid EU integration efforts
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has said that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan risks destroying his country because of attempts to get closer to the European Union.
He made such a statement at a press conference dedicated to the presidential election, Caliber.Az reports.
“He will destroy Armenia, calm him down there ... He must be pacified. We must not allow war in the Caucasus!” - Lukashenko emphasized, expressing concern over the possible consequences of the Armenian leader's foreign policy course.
The president of Belarus noted that the tense situation in the Caucasus requires restrained and balanced decisions rather than actions that could lead to destabilization of the region.
Armenia has recently intensified its efforts to pursue European Union (EU) membership, signaling a strategic shift in its foreign policy. On January 9, 2025, the Armenian government approved a bill to initiate the EU accession process, marking a significant step toward distancing itself from Russia and aligning more closely with Western institutions.
While Armenia's EU aspirations reflect its desire for greater integration with Western institutions, they also risk heightening regional tensions, particularly with Azerbaijan and Russia.
