British counterintelligence to train parliamentarians in protection against espionage
The British counterintelligence service MI5 is preparing a special document with recommendations for members of Parliament aimed at defending against espionage and foreign interference.
According to The Sunday Times, the guide will be published by the National Protective Security Authority—a unit of MI5—and targeted at MPs identified as “high-risk individuals.”
The document contains practical advice on hiring assistants, social media conduct, and precautions during overseas travel. MPs are specifically advised not to leave phones or laptops unattended in hotels.
They will also be encouraged to use the National Cyber Security Centre, which will monitor malicious activity on their electronic devices.
While the recommendations are formally universal, British officials explicitly point to China and Russia as the main sources of threats.
