Caspian states to convene in Tehran for 2026 summit, Iranian diplomat says
Tehran has been announced as the host city for the 7th Caspian States Summit, scheduled to take place in August 2026, Iranian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ali Mojtaba Rouzbehani confirmed.
“I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran will host the 7th Caspian States Summit in August 2026,” Rouzbehani stated, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“We hope that on International Caspian Sea Day and the 20th anniversary of the entry into force of the Tehran Convention, we will proudly welcome the presidents of the Caspian states to Tehran,” he added.
The summit is expected to bring together the heads of state from the five Caspian littoral nations — Iran, Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan — to discuss regional cooperation, environmental protection, maritime security, and the legal status of the Caspian Sea.
Rouzbehani also revealed Iran’s plans to host the first international meeting of governors from Caspian Sea coastal provinces in 2025. The event aims to foster regional diplomacy and cross-border collaboration at the subnational level.
“The purpose of this meeting is to provide a sustainable platform for dialogue, exchange of experience, and interaction at the level of the leadership of the Caspian provinces,” he noted. “It will serve to strengthen economic and regional diplomacy by utilising the potential of the provinces, identify opportunities for cross-border cooperation between neighbouring provinces of the Caspian Sea basin, and implement joint projects.”
Rouzbehani confirmed that formal invitations and the official program for the governors' meeting will be sent to all Caspian countries soon.
