CEO: Türkiye to provide Russia's Rosatom with second site for nuclear plant construction
CEO of Russia's Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Alexey Likhachev has said that Türkiye will allocate the second site for construction of a nuclear power plant in the country.
"President [of Türkiye] Recep Tayyip Erdogan publicly stated that the political decision had been made to transfer one more site to us. We are currently studying the details. Most probably this will be the 'Sinop' site - on the Black Sea and not on the Mediterranean," the chief executive said, according to TASS.
The Akkuyu nuclear power plant (NPP) currently under construction in Türkiye will produce about 35 billion kWh after achieving full capacity.
Thus, the Akkuyu NPP is the first nuclear power plant in the Republic of Türkiye and currently the largest nuclear construction project in the world. Four power units with the most advanced Russian-designed VVER-1200 reactors are being constructed simultaneously.
