Chechen head opposes ending Russia’s military operation in Ukraine
Ramzan Kadyrov, Head of the Chechen Republic, has said that Russia’s military operation in Ukraine should be carried through to completion.
He argued that negotiations with Kyiv in the current circumstances would be futile, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Kadyrov said, “I believe the war must be brought to an end. Negotiations after everything that has been done — I am against them.”
In September 2025, Kadyrov stated that he does not support ending hostilities in Ukraine, claiming that peace is only achievable if “Ukraine becomes a region or district of Russia.”
In an interview with Kremlin-aligned media, Kadyrov said:
"I am not at all a supporter of ending hostilities in the current situation in the area. I believe it is not in our interests to stop hostilities now... The goals and objectives of the special military operation are not taken out of thin air – they are a guarantee of the security of our entire country. Peace on our borders is only possible when Ukraine becomes a region or district of Russia."
The Chechen Republic, also known as Chechnya, is a federal subject of the Russian Federation. The Ukrainian parliament has recognised it as the temporarily Russian-occupied territory of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.
