China commits to closer ties with Moldova following Sandu's re-election
Beijing respects the choice of the Moldovan people and expresses its readiness to continue developing China-Moldova relations, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.
Mao emphasised China's readiness to collaborate with Moldova to facilitate the continued development of bilateral relations, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
"Moldova is a friendly partner of China, and we consistently respect the choice of the Moldovan people. We sincerely hope that Moldova will be prosperous and stable," Mao stated.
According to the Central Electoral Commission, with 99.73% of the protocols counted, incumbent president Maia Sandu leads in the second round of voting with 55.36% of the votes, while former Prosecutor General Alexandru Stoianoglo has garnered 44.64%.
Notably, Moldova’s pro-Western President Maia Sandu has won a second term in a pivotal presidential runoff.
With nearly 99% of votes counted in the second round of the presidential election held on November 3, Sandu had 55% of the vote, according to the Central Electoral Commission, compared to 45% for Alexandr Stoianoglo, a former prosecutor general who was backed by the pro-Russia Party of Socialists.
The result will be a major relief for the pro-Western government, which strongly backed Sandu’s candidacy, and her push for closer Western ties on Moldova’s path toward the EU.
