China denies reports of arms transfers to Iran, calls claims “completely made up”
China has rejected allegations that it is supplying weapons to Iran, describing such reports as “completely made up,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated.
The denial follows media reports suggesting that Beijing had provided or was preparing to provide military equipment to Tehran, Iran International reports.
CNN reported late on April 10, citing US intelligence sources, that China was preparing to deliver new air defence systems to Iran within the next few weeks.
Addressing the claims at a press briefing, Guo said China maintains strict controls over military exports and adheres to a responsible approach in line with domestic law and international obligations.
“We oppose groundless smears or malicious association,” he said.
Separately, a spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in Washington also dismissed the allegations, stating: “China has never provided weapons to any party to the conflict; the information in question is untrue.”
The spokesperson added: “As a responsible major country, China consistently fulfills its international obligations. We urge the US side to refrain from making baseless allegations, maliciously drawing connections, and engaging in sensationalism; we hope that relevant parties will do more to help de-escalate tensions.”
