China, Germany discuss strengthening economic cooperation
China has put forward an initiative to strengthen ties with Germany. Chinese Premier Li Qiang discussed the matter with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on the sidelines of the G20 summit on November 23.
Li emphasised that China and Germany are important economic and trade partners, and highlighted the need for government cooperation to enhance dialogue and address emerging challenges, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He also proposed closer collaboration with Merz in a number of strategic sectors.
It is noted that Berlin and Beijing are seeking to overcome tensions in their relations, which have increased in recent months following China’s tighter export controls and the postponement of a visit by German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadelful.
Meanwhile, German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, during his visit to China, urged Beijing to make efforts to end the war in Ukraine and stressed the need for “fair conditions of competition” in trade. After the meetings, the German minister received assurances from China regarding the continued supply of rare-earth metals.
