China to start mass production of flying cars next year
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer XPeng Motors is set to mass-produce flying cars by 2026, marking a significant milestone in China's rapidly advancing low-altitude economy.
The announcement was made by He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer XPeng Motors and an MP to the 14th National People's Congress, during a media briefing in Beijing, Caliber.Az reports via Chinese media.
“If the project stays on schedule, XPeng will become the first company globally to mass-produce flying cars,” He stated.
He emphasized that XPeng is integrating AI-driven vehicle control with a new flight control system, aiming to enhance safety and user experience.
In addition to its flying car initiative, XPeng is accelerating efforts in autonomous driving. The company aims to surpass global competitors with Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities this year and plans to introduce Level 4 features, including fully autonomous parking, by 2026.
XPeng is also investing in humanoid robotics, with China’s humanoid robotics industry advancing towards Level 3 capabilities. According to He, entry-level Level 3 humanoid robots—capable of operating independently in multiple scenarios but still requiring human oversight in complex situations—are expected to enter moderate-scale commercial production by 2026.
Meanwhile, Xinhua reported that at the first production stage, a flying module for the Land Aircraft Carrier (LAC) vehicle is expected to be created. It is planned to produce 10,000 such units annually. The LAC will be presented on November 12 and 17 at the Airshow China in Zhuhai, where it will make its debut flight.
