China vows to defend UN Charter, calls for reforms to boost efficiency
Chinese Premier Li Qiang reaffirmed Beijing’s firm commitment to supporting the United Nations and enhancing its global role during his address at the UN General Assembly.
In a speech underscoring China’s multilateral approach to global governance, the Premier called for reforms to improve the organization’s effectiveness and inclusivity, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Li stated that China was ready to work together with all UN member states to uphold the status and authority of the organization and to safeguard the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, positioning the country as a staunch advocate for a rules-based international order.
He further emphasized the need to modernize the UN’s institutional framework, expressing support for reform efforts aimed at bolstering the organization’s operational capacity and mandate implementation.
Premier Li also stressed the importance of ensuring equitable representation within the UN system, particularly for the Global South. “China supports reform of the UN aimed at improving its efficiency and ability to fulfill its mandate, and advocates for greater representation and a stronger voice for developing countries,” he said.
