CIS intelligence services foil five terrorist attacks in 2025
The intelligence services of CIS member states jointly thwarted five terrorist attacks in 2025.
The statement was made by Botir Tursunov, First Deputy Chairman of Uzbekistan’s State Security Service (SGB), during the Third CIS Conference on Combating Terrorism and Extremism, Caliber.Az reports, citing Uzbek media.
Tursunov emphasised the importance of continued cooperation among the security agencies of the Commonwealth countries.
“Uzbekistan is ready to continue sharing its experience, expanding cooperation, and participating in joint initiatives within the framework of our partnership,” he said.
In June 2025, Alexander Bortnikov, head of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), said that intelligence and law enforcement bodies in Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries identified over 5,500 terrorists and extremists in 2024, preventing 550 terrorism-and extremism-related crimes.
In October this year, a new cooperation programme for 2026-2028 was adopted by CIS members to further deepen counter-terrorism and extremism cooperation, including better information-sharing and legal frameworks.
