Clash erupts between government and opposition supporters in Tbilisi VIDEO
A violent confrontation broke out near the campaign headquarters of incumbent Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze on September 8, as supporters of the ruling Georgian Dream party clashed with pro-Western protesters.
The incident took place in the city centre, where demonstrators had gathered ahead of upcoming local elections. Police forces were quickly deployed to separate the groups and restore order. Despite law enforcement efforts, tensions remain high, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs urged all participants to follow police instructions and avoid escalating the situation. “Otherwise, law enforcement officers will take measures as prescribed by law, and each violation will face appropriate legal action,” the ministry said in an official statement.
Authorities reported that the situation was partially defused shortly after the conflict began. However, some individuals continue to disrupt public order, prompting police to maintain a strong presence in the area.
