Clashes erupt between protesters and police outside Armenian parliament
In front of the Parliament building on Baghramyan Avenue, clashes erupted between participants of the Tavush in the Name of Motherland movement and police officers.
Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media, that the situation is extremely tense, with special police units being deployed to the scene.
The leader of the movement, Bagrat Galstanyan, dispatched opposition MPs to the parliamentary session hall upon hearing about the scuffle inside. Several MPs attempted to enter the National Assembly building, but law enforcers blocked their way, leading to a scuffle. The police began pushing back the protesters with shields and started detaining them.
To disperse the protesters on Baghramyan Avenue in Yerevan, police used special means, including over a dozen light and noise grenades. Both protesters and police exchanged bottles and stones. A special police unit is positioned in the front rows.
Reports indicate that several protesters have been injured due to police actions. Bagrat Galstanyan has called on the protesters to retreat and avoid provocation.
