Czech Republic stands against EU sanctions on Israel
Prague will not allow the introduction of sanctions against Israel within the European Union framework, even if it has to block such measures alone, Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka has stated.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Prague with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, he added that the Czech Republic intends to form coalition groups to vote on issues requiring a qualified majority, in order to ensure that “no further aggressive EU measures harm Israel.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Sa’ar stated that there have recently been attempts by some European left-wing governments to promote what he described as a “radical anti-Israeli approach” within the EU, arguing that this harms Europe’s own interests.
“Are Europe’s allies in the Middle East, the Ayatollah Regime in Iran? Radical Islam? Palestinian terror? Sa’ar asked.
“We are witnessing an attempt by certain left-wing governments in Europe to drag the EU to a radical, anti-Israeli approach.
