Deadly blaze near Budapest leaves three dead, dozens injured
At least three people were killed and nearly two dozen others injured after a fire broke out early on February 13 in a suburb of Hungary’s capital, Budapest, according to foreign media reports, citing local authorities.
The blaze erupted in the town of Budakeszi, located about five miles (eight kilometres) west of Budapest, engulfing a two-story building during the early morning hours.
Firefighters from the capital responded to the scene and later succeeded in extinguishing the fire, according to Hungary’s National Directorate General for Disaster Management.
Emergency services launched a large-scale response, deploying more than 40 paramedics and 18 emergency vehicles. During rescue operations, firefighters pulled several survivors from the building and removed three gas cylinders.
A spokesperson for the disaster management authority said the bodies of two men and one woman were discovered beneath the collapsed roof of the structure.
Paramedics provided medical assistance to 22 people injured in the incident, including four who sustained life-threatening injuries. All of the wounded were transported to eight hospitals across Budapest for further treatment.
