Diplomatic friction: US envoy cuts ties with Polish parliament speaker
Diplomatic tensions between the United States and Poland flared this week after US Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose announced he was severing all contact with Włodzimierz Czarzasty, the speaker of Poland’s lower house of parliament, the Sejm.
In a statement posted on social media, Rose said the decision was prompted by what he described as “outrageous and unprovoked insults” directed by Czarzasty toward US President Donald Trump, Caliber.Az reports.
Effective immediately, we will have no further dealings, contacts, or communications with Marshal of the Sejm Czarzasty, whose outrageous and unprovoked insults directed against President Trump @POTUS has made himself a serious impediment to our excellent relations with Prime…

“Effective immediately, we will have no further dealings, contacts, or communications with Marshal of the Sejm Czarzasty,” Rose wrote.
He added that the speaker’s remarks had made him “a serious impediment” to otherwise strong relations between Washington and the Polish government led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk responded publicly on X, pushing back against the ambassador’s approach.
“Allies should respect, not lecture, each other,” Tusk wrote.
Mr.Ambassador Rose, allies should respect, not lecture, each other. At least this is how we, here in Poland, understand partnership.

Panie Ambasadorze Rose, sojusznicy powinni się szanować, a nie pouczać. Przynajmniej tak w Polsce rozumiemy partnerstwo.
The ambassador’s move also drew criticism from Democrats on the US House Foreign Affairs Committee. In a statement, committee members described the decision as emblematic of Trump’s governing style.
Severing diplomatic relations with an ally over Trump's petty and unearned crusade for the Peace Prize... kinda just proves their point about him being "transactional" and "force-based." https://t.co/Rg6Rr3xc8J pic.twitter.com/Sd5bDqtZTi

The dispute stems from comments made earlier this week by Czarzasty, a member of the center-left New Left party, who said he would not support an initiative to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize on February 2.
“I won’t support the application for a Nobel Prize for Trump because he does not deserve it,” Czarzasty said.
He argued that Trump represents “power politics” and pursues a “transactional” approach through the use of force.
Czarzasty also criticised the US-led creation of a new “Board of Peace” body intended to oversee a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, saying efforts should instead focus on strengthening existing international institutions such as the European Union, NATO, the United Nations, and the World Health Organisation. In addition, he took aim at Trump’s past remarks about US interest in taking over Greenland and comments minimising European contributions to the US-led war in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021.
