Drones target six regions in biggest attack on Russia since start of war
A drone attack on an airport in the north-western Russian city of Pskov has damaged two military transport planes, the local department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations said, according to Kommersant.
Earlier, the TASS news agency, citing sources in aviation authorities, reported that not two but four Il-76s were damaged in the fire after the drone attack.
A fire broke out at the airport after the drone attack. At the moment it has been localised. The airport has cancelled all flights until they assess the damage to the runway. If the damage turns out to be insignificant, the airport will resume operations on August 31.
Pskov Airport is home to civilian and military aviation. Its website says that "the 334th Military Transport Berlin Red Banner Aviation Regiment armed with Il-76 aircraft is stationed at the airfield."
The press service of the Russian Defence Ministry also reported that a Ukrainian aircraft-type drone was intercepted and crashed over the Ruzsky district of the Moscow region. According to the ministry, the drone was detected and disabled at around 03:30.
"Tonight there was an attempted mass drone attack in the Central Federal District. One of the UAVs heading towards Moscow was destroyed by air defence forces in the Ruzsky district. There are no preliminary casualties or damage. Emergency services are working at the scene," Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin wrote on his Telegram channel.
Moscow Region became the sixth region to be attacked by Ukrainian drones overnight on August 30. Earlier it was reported that drones were shot down in Bryansk, Kaluga, Orel and Ryazan regions.
