Georgian MP: Opposition seeks revolution, not election victory
Georgian lawmaker Dmitry Khundadze, secretary general of the People's Power party, said the opposition’s true aim is not electoral victory, but sparking a revolution—a goal he believes will not succeed.
Georgia is set to hold local elections on October 4, 2025, to select mayors and deputies for local consultative bodies, known as sakrebulo.
According to Caliber.Az, citing Georgia media, Khundadze told journalists, “The opposition’s objective is not the elections themselves, but what they frequently talk about—a revolution. In reality, this will remain an unfulfilled ambition. We are preparing for the elections, have nominated candidates, developed an election program, and are beginning pre-election outreach with citizens. We expect to achieve strong results.”
He added that some opposition members plan to stay on the streets, while others intend to participate in elections to disrupt the functioning of local consultative bodies.
“Part of their strategy is division, a task reportedly assigned from outside: some must remain on the streets, while others aim to infiltrate local consultative bodies, even with just one or two representatives, to create chaos,” Khundadze explained.
He concluded that both strategies are unlikely to succeed, as society will ultimately deliver a definitive political judgment on the opposition.
