Official: Iran welcomes initial peace agreement between Azerbaijan, Armenia
Iran has welcomed the recent peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, highlighting the importance of regional stability.
Mohammad Reza Aref, Iran’s first vice-president, made the remarks while commenting on the initialling of the peace accord between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Speaking at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, where Iran participates as an observer, Aref stressed the need to uphold peace and stability in the region.
“Iran, emphasising the importance of strengthening peace and stability, welcomes the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” he said.
“By reaffirming our consistent stance on respecting the territorial integrity of nations, we believe foreign interference in the region’s affairs will not contribute to lasting security.”
