Talks advance on new air link between Kars and Baku PHOTO
Officials in Türkiye are continuing discussions on launching direct flights between Kars and Baku, as stakeholders evaluate the feasibility of establishing a new air link between the two cities.
The issue was the focus of a second evaluation meeting chaired by Kadir Bozan, head of the Kars Chamber of Commerce and Industry, according to Azertag, citing Turkish media.
The meeting was held online and brought together key participants, including Kars Airport Director Oguz Aydemir, Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Kars Zamin Aliyev, AZAL representative Bekir Bıyıklı, and President of the Kars Tourism Association Halit Özer.
Participants conducted a comprehensive review of the technical, operational, and economic aspects of launching direct flights between Baku and Kars.
Particular attention was paid to the transportation needs of students studying in both countries. Attendees expressed confidence that direct flights would significantly reduce travel time and costs.
Bozan emphasised that the introduction of direct flights would improve access to Eastern Anatolia, a region with strong potential in winter and cultural tourism, making it more attractive to Azerbaijani visitors.
He also noted that establishing a direct connection to Azerbaijan’s capital would help strengthen trade relations between the two countries, boost regional economic activity, and create new opportunities for cooperation.
The participants agreed to continue evaluating the proposal, including advancing work on technical and economic feasibility studies for the potential route.
