Lukashenko: WWII victory belongs to all former Soviet nations
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that the Victory in the Great Patriotic War should be regarded as a shared achievement of all nations of the former Soviet Union during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
At the start of the talks, Lukashenko expressed gratitude to Putin for inviting him to participate in commemorative events marking the anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, according to TASS.
“This is a good, bright holiday,” Lukashenko noted.
He stressed that the victory was a collective accomplishment rooted in the sacrifices of multiple nations.
“This is our achievement. Our ancestors once saved not only Europe but the entire world from the brown plague. This is our great heritage. This is what we proceed from. It is the heritage of both Russians and Belarusians, and all the republics of the Soviet Union. Everyone fought and died by the tens, hundreds, and thousands,” the Belarusian leader emphasised.
